The **Bark River Gameskeeper II** is a great hunting knife with a substantial blade, in terms of both length and thickness. The blade length is what differentiates the GamesKeeper II from the original GamesKeeper. This knife was specifically designed for larger game such as deer, elk or bear. The Gameskeeper II can handle the most demanding tasks. The blade is really thick all the way towards the tip, making it extra strong. There is a flat finger groove just behind the edge, before the crop. This allows you to hold it a little closer to the edge for tasks that require more precision.
The blade is made from A2 tool steel, a strong steel that would rather bend than break. You do, however, need to be careful with moisture and acids: A2 is not completely stainless. Make sure to clean it after use and occasionally apply a drop of oil to keep this knife in great shape. The edge has a convex grind that can be maintained by [stropping it](/en/ct/stropping.htm).
The handle is made of canvas micarta, which is a strong and lightweight material made from linen and synthetic resin. It feels comfortable in hand, even in wet or cold conditions.
The Bark River GamesKeeper II comes with a leather belt sheath. You can carry it either upright (belt width up to 5.5 cm) or diagonally (belt width up to 6.0 cm).
Bark River Knives makes all of its knives almost entirely by hand. This means that each knife is unique. Especially when working with natural materials, a knife may differ from the photos. Therefore the knife you receive might be subtly different from the product photos. The model and type of material, however, will always be the same.
