The ESEE Model 5 is a solid survival knife with a blade made from 1095 carbon steel. The extremely sustainable powder coating on the blade protects it from the increased corrosion sensitivity of the carbon steel. The wonderful usage qualities of the steel guarantee a lifetime of pleasure. The full-tang blade is enhanced with a G10 handle. The handle feels slightly coarse which is great for grip and comfort. The ESEE Model 5 is a large and solid knife that can withstand extremely heavy use. If its size and weight might be a little too much the Model 4 or Model 3 are great smaller alternatives.
This bright-green and orange edition is perfect because you will never lose it in the woods. While only an orange handle might get lost in the woods in autumn the bright-green blade will ensure you won’t. You will always find this version.
The ergonomics are excellent. The handle is enhanced with a curve for your index finger. The handle is quite large. Also suitable for large hands. The top of the blade is enhanced with ridges for your thumb. As such you have more control over the knife. The back of the knife has a large hole for a lanyard. The tip functions as a glass breaker.
The handle contains a ‘bow drill divot’. You use this bow drill divot to create a fire by quickly turning a wooden stick with the help of a bow on a wooden surface keeping slightly flammable material close. It is the most basic way of making a fire, but it could work surprisingly well. In each case you can say that with the Model 5 you will be ready for anything.
This ESEE 5 comes with a nice Zytel sheath, with belt clip. You can assemble this yourself in a way that suits you best.
