The TOPS Tahoma is a large fixed survival knife, enhanced with a couple practical functions. The knife, for instance, is enhanced with a large finger choil that makes carrying out precise tasks a lot easier. The spine of the tip is enhanced with a second cutting edge that can be used when the primary edge has become blunt, but also ensures piercing through materials will be a piece of cake. A little further on the spine you will find a double cut-out enhanced with a type of saw serration. This serration can be used to mark materials or to make a primary cut before you start chopping. This serration is practical when you want to remove a pan from the fire. You can easily hang the lid from one of the serrations.
Despite its size the Tahoma is very light-weight. Because of this weight and the very extensive MOLLE compatible sheath you can easily take the knife with you on long camping trips and hikes.
The blade is enhanced with a unique Black River Wash, named after a river in the Tex Creek area. As such the knife looks very rough. This finish highlights the pattern of the hardening of the steel even more. This Black River Wash does not fully protect against rust on the 1095 carbon steel. As such it is important you clean the blade and occasionally add a drop of oil to prevent rust.
